The Youth Media Lab
The Media Lab in Botkyrka is a platform for young people in Botkyrka who share ideas, opinions, thoughts, stories and perspectives through film, radio, text, music, pods etc.
“Voices of Botkyrka” a youth Editorial office
The media lab contains a youth editorial office and pedagogical infrastructure of support for young people who want to publish and reach out with their media work through different platforms of which their own website www.botkyrkasroster.se is one. The young participants decide the content and subjects that they want to raise, but are also offered pedagogical and editorial support when producing material. They are also offered salary for their publications and contributions to the meetings.
The aim of the project is to engage youth in local politics and to find and create platforms for their voices, but also to make sure that local (and sometimes national) authorities and influencers respond to their messages. The project has for years been visible in both digital and physical platforms in Botkyrka and around Sweden. The meetings are hosted and facilitated by a project manager/editor at Fanzingo.
Drop-In Media Lab – every Wednesday
Fanzingo is running a media lab for the local youth in a lower income area of Botkyrka – a municipality south of Stockholm with a large immigrant population (40% born outside of Sweden). The lab offers pedagogical resources to help participants develop technical, artistic and journalistic skills.
Computers with editing programs as well as cameras and other technical equipment is available without cost for young people to use for their own projects. Fanzingo invites visitors of the lab to participate in workshops to gain practical production know-how, storytelling skills and media industry knowledge. All workshops are cost-free for young people in Botkyrka.
